Position: Summer Camp Day Counselor
Reports to: Summer Camp ManagerClassification: Part-time/Seasonal
Hourly rate: $14-17/hour, depending on experience
Job Description: Join Girlstart's efforts to educate and empower girls this summer! Girlstart's Summer Counselors (called STEM CREW--Creative, Resourceful, Empowered Workforce) work directly with elementary and middle school girls leading hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math activities at weekly, in-person day camps in Austin, TX. Enhance your leadership and teamwork skills, improve your presentation and communication style, and build your problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities all while being a positive and meaningful role model for girls!

Camp Location: 1400 W Anderson Lane, Austin, TX 78757
Responsibilities: - Lead camp activities focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (previous STEM experience not required)
- Implement and run daily camp activities
- Learn and implement the Girlstart method within camp environment
- Modify activities as needed to accommodate any unique camp scenarios
- Be prepared to organize materials, practice technology, etc.
- Contribute to weekly counselor huddles
- Facilitate classroom management techniques
- Act as a positive role model for girls
- HAVE FUN!!
- Other duties as needed
Qualifications: - A minimum of 1 year of college courses completed or related experience is required.
- Positive, friendly, flexible and outgoing.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work as a team player and foster cooperative work.
- Reliable, dependable, and timely.
- Effective organization skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the mission of Girlstart.
- Experience working at summer camps and/or informal education.
- Classroom management skills helpful.
- Ability to succeed in informal/camp atmosphere.
- Comfortable presenting to a group of girls
All STEM CREW Counselors Must: - Attend mandatory training before camp (May 20-24 & 28-31: 9:30am-4:30pm).
- Pass a background check, be or become First Aid/CPR certified, and obtain a Sexual Abuse Awarenesss certificate (Girlstart will provide additional information upon hire)
- Work the complete duration of the camp period: June 3-August 2 (no camp June 19 or July 1-5)
- All time off must be arranged with Camp Manager before May 22nd.
