Pretrial Intake Officer (Temporary) Employment Type: 1 - Full-time Temporary Pay Range: $22.56 - 34.69 Location: Castle Rock, CO Overtime Exempt: N Elected Office / Department: COMMUNITY JUSTICE SERVICES This position will Interview felony and misdemeanor defendants in the Douglas County Detention Center for the purpose of establishing and verifying residence, family ties, employment, and past criminal history to assist the District/County courts in setting appropriate bail bonds. Generally, the hiring range is $22.56 - $28.20 hourly. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary. Typical work schedule consists of four 10-hour shifts, typically 8pm-6am. Additional day, evening, weekend and/or holiday hours may be required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.) Secures defendant's information from the Colorado Crime Information Center / National Crime Information Center (NCIC/CCIC), and the Colorado Judicial Information System. The defendant's information is entered into the above stated databases to verify whether the defendant has a prior criminal history.Information is gathered and included in the report submitted to the Douglas County District/County courts. Enters and maintains updated bond reports and client supervision information on the Division's computer database system. Shall be proficient in all the electronic monitoring equipment deployed by the Community Justice Services Department (monitoring, installation and problem solving) Respond to GPS violations that occur after hours.Communicates with the on-call Judge, District Attorney, and law enforcement to execute applications to revoke bond when appropriate. Performing day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork. Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Works under General supervision with periodic work review. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:This position does not directly supervise others. May assist with the training and orientation of new staff. INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT:Work requires a considerable amount of analysis to determine a course of action within the limits of standard practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social science or a similar related field is required. One year of experience working in the criminal justice system or related experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge: Knowledge of the criminal justice system - specifically court procedures and corrections Working knowledge of interviewing techniques Knowledge of non-profit and governmental agencies. Skills: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and clients by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person. Computer literacy for learning/utilizing internal and external databases. Bilingual ability highly desired. Intermediate Microsoft Suite skills (Excel, Word, Outlook). Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources. Abilities: Working knowledge or ability to learn Electronic Monitoring equipment used in the field of corrections Ability to work effectively independent of others. Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, defendants, and other criminal justice related entities. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: May require taking an Oath of Office for Eighteenth Judicial District Bond Commissioner. This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical Work Environment:Typical office environment, which includes close, in-person contact with coworkers, law enforcement, judicial staff, defendants, and the public. Noise level is moderate. Physical Demands:Primarily sedentary. This position requires close vision and requires significant computer use. Material and Equipment Directly Used: Computers, iPad or similar device, phones, fax machine, recorders, electronic monitoring equipment, copiers, and other standard office equipment.
