The Highlights:

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Steans Center, the Assistant Director (AD) for ABCD Institute Partnerships is the main point of contact for the Asset-Based Community Development Institute (ABCDI) at DePaul University. The AD's primary role is to act as liaison between DePaul and the ABCD Institute network across the globe. The AD facilitates regular communication and collaboration among DePaul staff, faculty, and administrators, the ABCD Institute stewards, as well as the public and communicates regularly with the board of the ABCD Institute which operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. The position supervises one part-time graduate student.


What You'll Do:

  • Global Communications Point person for ABCD Institute at DePaul University.
    Promotes Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) as an important community engagement approach at DePaul University and internationally. Working collaboratively with other Steans Center directors, the AD promotes relationship building between ABCD Institute network members and DePaul University. The AD manages all inquiries and responses to ABCD Institute business including questions about use of the methodology, advice, and direction to resources, publications, permission requests for use of publications, and ABCD training resources and speaker referrals. The AD coordinates and participates in ABCD Institute work groups as well as other Board committees for planning and implementing ABCD ideas and projects. The AD acts as the point person for the ABCD Instituteâ™s global network. This includes referrals and coordinating contacts for training and speakers with appropriate ABCD stewards and workgroup members, generating ideas and facilitating integration of DePaul faculty and students with ABCD Institute stewards and projects, and communicating ABCD Institute news and information to the DePaul community and the ABCDI global network.
  • Coordination of the ABCD Institute Publications and Website.
    With ABCD Institute Connectors and Network, the AD supervises the generation of new publications and coordinates their dissemination. The AD also supervises the revisions and document layouts of past publications for downloading to the ABCD Institute website. The AD communicates with ACTA Publications and the Copyright Clearance Center. Lastly, the AD supervises contents, updates, and periodic redesign of the ABCD Institute website.
  • Financial and Institutional Management Responsibilities
    Prepare documents for budgetary review, manage and maintain all DePaul and ABCD Institute-related budgets and documentation and DePaul-related financial transactions and budget management relevant to the collaboration. The AD assists in the preparation of financial reports and legal documents for the ABCD Institute as a 501(C)3. The AD supervises the handling of invoices, incoming checks, and procurement of supplies for operating the institute and coordinates reimbursements and payments to outside contractors. When relevant, the AD works with the Executive Director to assist in monitoring grants and projects developed in partnership with the ABCD Institute to ensure financial responsibilities are met and deliverables are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Other Responsibilities.
    The AD attends monthly Steans Center management meetings and, when possible, full department meetings.With the assistance of a part-time graduate student worker, the AD oversees: (1) planning and organizing of ABCD in-person meetings and training including coordination of hotel accommodations, dining, technology; (2) the production collating and disseminating of documents and meeting materials; and (3) the maintenance of the ABCD Institute record systems and archive; (4) creation of virtual and in person training workshop marketing materials registration process.
  • Supervises one part-time graduate student worker.
  • Assists in oversight of fiscal planning and monitoring for the ABCD Institute budgets. Works with the Executive Director and Associate Director, Compliance, Evaluation, and Community Partnership Management to ensure compliance with university and Steans Center policies and procedures including human resources, fiscal accountability, and legal requirements.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelorâ™s degree required; Masterâ™s degree preferred.
  • Four or more years of professional experience in administration in the field of community development/engagement, preferably at a university.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of asset-based community development practices and methodology.
  • Proven track record in relationship building, managing projects and events. Must be adaptable to changes.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and presentation skills both in-person and virtually.
  • Experience with supervision and coaching staff preferred.
  • Coordination of finances and grants and contracts needed.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, Quickbooks, Google Workspace and other database management software to effectively manage a network of members.
  • This position is physically located at the Steans Center at DePaul University in Chicago, IL with telework available. Occasional travel and evening or weekend activities.
